Not taking any this time, but I just have to say...

YOU ROCK! Not only do you make icons of some of my favorite bands, but you're listening to one of my favorite songs *bounces*

I'm kind of an oddity, 'cause most people my age are listening to whatever's latest and greatest, and while I listen to some of it, I listen to a LOT of stuff from the 80s and before :-)

I know what you mean. I saw a guy in my school with a Leppard shirt and had to resist the urge to freak out.

*snicker* I've got one of the most random music collections known to mankind - I've got Leppard and Journey sharing space with Pantera, Garth Brooks, Yngwie Malmsteen, and some random Celtic bands. It's quite fun, really. Most people don't know what to make of a teenage chick wearing a Led Zeppelin shirt, who actually KNOWS who Zeppelin is, and likes 'em.

Yeah, it' fun seeing peoples faces when they listen to my mix CDs; they sometimes go from Metallica to the Goo Goo Dolls to Kill Hannah to Leppard to Styx to Iron Maiden. And speaking of shirts, around my school, it's Pink Floyd that's "in" right now. I'm pretty sure maybe 5 people with an Dark Side of the Moon sirt actually own the album and listen to it.

Hehe, I've got some really odd mix CDs too. Drives dad nuts, 'cause he'll just be getting into the classic rock stuff, and then something like Anberlin will come up, and he'll whine at me to skip over it :-P

My sis got me a Dark Side Of The Moon shirt for Christmas last year, and most of my friends had no clue what it was about. I had to explain "Pink Floyd is a BAND, not just one dude. And they make kick-ass music. Yes, some of it is weird, but it's mostly good." Most of them still don't get it. *eyeroll* My personal favorites are the guys who try to hit on me by acting like they know who the hell this band is on my shirt, and I end up totally proving that they're an idiot. Sometimes, I don't even have to resort to "my boyfriend is in the army, and he's VERY protective...and so's his .45." So I stretch the truth a little bit - we're not exactly a couple, but he's my best friend, and he's tired of jackasses hitting on me :-P He DOES have a .45, though...and he wants me to try shooting it sometime, just for the hell of it lol

I've made my dad listen to so much Goo Goo Dolls stuff, he can sing along to almost every song by now.

I love it when people try to act like they know what they're talking about when they really don't. Because then my knowladge of obscure rock trivia really comes in handy. Or it helps me get away with wearing a Clash shirt because I can prove I actually listen to the band. Someone actually did test me on that last year. It was a bit odd and random.

*giggle* I actually got dad to listen to Dropkick Murphy's, and sort of enjoy it. That was pretty funny.

Hehe! I've had teachers look at me and say "you're too young to know about that stuff! I listened to that when I was your age!" I made my history teacher laugh when I listed some of the bands in my collection. She's the same one who was discussing the Declaration of Independence with us one day, and pointing out how the concept of overthrowing an oppressive government was copied by other countries (like France overthrowing their king), and she was surprised when I raised my hand and asked "That was how the South justified secession, and started the Civil War, right?" She pulled me aside after class and said "don't take this the wrong way, but seeing you sitting back there looking like a typical redneck, and having you ask me this educated question...there's just something oxymoronic and funny about it." I looked down at what I was wearing - boots, jeans, University of South Carolina sweatshirt, and my camo baseball cap - and realized "damn, I DO look like a redneck!" It was pretty funny, 'cause my cousin is in the same class, so he started calling me "Larry The Cable Guy". *snort*

Splat

I think half my school could be called rednecks. We have off for the first day of deer season. Although our town is getting a bit bigger; they're building a Red Robin by the two grocery stores.

I love surprising my teachers with my musical taste. My public speaking teacher is aparently a Metallica fan, which means I have to do really well on my 'How To Be Metal' speach. Oh boy, more work. Yay.

Mmmm, deer. I'm hoping someone in my family gets one this year (or, even better, an elk), 'cause I want some good meat, dangit! lol

I surprised the hell out of my film analysis teacher my first semester, 'cause I understood the majority of his jokes and references that the middle-aged guys in the class were laughing at, and I was a total Miami Vice geek (that came in handy when we watched "Manhunter", which was directed by the same guy). Lots o' fun had in that class *giggle*

I hope your speech goes well :-) Sounds like a fun topic.
